Yermo/Calico Fire Department in conjunction with California State Firefighters Association (CSFA) coordinated free live fire training for all firefighters who wished to join. The event was the first of its kind in the North Hi-Desert. Over seventy students participated in the weekend training held at Silver Valley High School.
The Silver Valley Fire Alliance contributed by forming an instructor cadre of professional firefighters to teach in the areas of vertical ventilation and interior fire attack.
Firefighter professionals from Ft Irwin Fire Department, Barstow Fire, Santa Monica Fire, Orange County Fire Authority, and MCLB Fire & Emergency Services all stepped in to lend a helping hand.
Blue Collar Training Network had instructors out to teach students techniques on forcible entry.
Sponsors for the weekend were Clearway Energy , MSA, and 511 tactical. Vendors included FirstNet by AT&T, Firefighters for Christ, Drip Drop, California Casualty and Line Gear. Burger Den, a local restaurant provided lunch for all students, instructors, sponsors, vendors, and spectators. SVFA also helped to keep energy levels up by providing breakfast and snacks for all participants and vendors.
“This is the biggest event we’ve ever had. You guys really set the bar high.”
-Chief Chris Barron, CSFA.
SVFA is proud to have contributed to an event of this magnitude. With any luck maybe quality training like this can be be a reoccurring event.
